Ng Teng Fong Scholarship

The Ng family founded Ng Teng Fong Scholarship in 2015 to provide education related financial aid. The scholarship is supported by Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation with HK$100 million as a seed fund. It focuses on rewarding outstanding secondary school and university students from less-resourced families in Hong Kong, Fujian, Hubei, Sichuan, Ningxia, Guangdong and Chongqing, helping them receive better education.

Mr Alexander Ng, Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Group General Manager of Sino Group, shared, ‘Every young person is full of limitless potential. The development of society relies on human talent; in turn, the quality of talent relies on education. The purpose of the Ng Teng Fong Scholarship is to create a better learning environment for our youth and to cultivate Hong Kong’s future leaders.’

Over the past six years, more than 4,000 students have been awarded with Ng Teng Fong Scholarship, totalling an amount of over HK$20 million.

2020 Ng Teng Fong Scholarship (Hong Kong)

In 2020, 108 Form 4 and Form 5 students of 108 secondary schools in Kowloon City, Yau Tsim Mong, Sham Shui Po and Kwun Tong were awarded. Each of them received HK$5,000 from the Ng Teng Fong Scholarship, with a total amount of HK$540,000. Representatives of the schools collected certificates and cheques at Tsim Sha Tsui Community Hall on 9 December 2020.

A total of over HK$2.6 million has been awarded to 533 secondary students in Hong Kong since the establishment of Ng Teng Fong Scholarship in 2015.

Donation of HK$2 million to City University of Hong Kong to encourage students to stay positive amid difficulties

A HK$2 million donation from the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (Foundation) will fund the establishment of a special Kiki Hung Scholarship in memory of the late alumna Ms Kiki Hung Mei-ki from the Department of Linguistics and Translation at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) in appreciation of her exemplary personal qualities including a positive mind and great perseverance in the face of difficulties.

Kiki was admitted to CityU in 2016. Despite a rare genetic neuromuscular disorder, she pursued her studies with great enthusiasm, attaining outstanding academic performances and earning a number of scholarships each year.

The donation from the Foundation will support the establishment of the Kiki Hung Scholarship to recognise students with physical or mental challenges who achieve outstanding academic results. The scholarship will be offered to three to six awardees annually and will open up for application in January 2021.

A donation ceremony was held on 13 November at CityU. Guests attending the ceremony included Ms Nikki Ng, Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation; President Way Kuo of CityU; Professor Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Vice-President (Development and External Relations); Ms Kathy Chan Yin-ling, Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni Relations); Mr Gavin Kwok Man-kit, Director (Development Office); and Ms Yang Tao-zhi, mother of Kiki.

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation was established by the Ng Family in 2010 in memory of the late founder of Sino Group, Mr Ng Teng Fong. “We are deeply touched by the experience of Kiki who not only demonstrated her eagerness to learn but also showed immense perseverance and care for others despite her own struggles. We hope that her spirit will continue to live on and inspire many others through the establishment of the scholarship here at CityU,” Ms Ng said.

President Kuo expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Foundation for its generous donation. “I met Kiki three years ago during a home visit and she was amazing,” he said. “She was an active and optimistic student in university and a young role model. This scholarship is established to encourage students to treasure the opportunities they have and stay positive and persevering when facing difficulties and problems.”

President Kuo presented a painting with a quote from his blog “Life may not be perfect, but the will is infinite” to Ms Ng on behalf of the University in appreciation of Kiki’s spirit.

Kiki worked very hard and submitted her graduation thesis earlier this year before she was admitted into intensive care unit. She graduated with first-class honours. President Kuo presented a certificate of Bachelor of Arts in Translation and Interpretation and the Honour Cord for distinguished graduates to Kiki’s mother at Kiki’s hospital bedside.

Donation of RMB 800,000 of Ng Teng Fong Scholarship to Hubei ‘Enshi 2020 Donation Ceremony’ charity event

Hubei Province carried out the charity activity of ‘Enshi 2020 Donation Ceremony’ from 26th to 28th, August. Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation was invited to participate in and donated RMB 800,000 of  Ng Teng Fong Scholarship. The scholarship is mainly used to reward the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, 160 fresh high school graduates admitted to colleges and universities with financial difficulties and good character and academic ability, to help them receive a better education. Each student will be awarded a scholarship of RMB 5,000.

Sponsorship to Royal College of Art with Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Scholarship

The Foundation supports one full-time School of Architecture student to pursue the Environmental Architecture MA degree. The scholarship covers full tuition fees for the duration of the student’s MA degree.

Sino Group / Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Scholarship Programme

The Foundation has made a donation to Lingnan University, Hong Kong for the establishment of the Sino Group/Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Scholarship Programme. The programme aims at recognising outstanding accounting students, while allowing them to further develop professional knowledge and broaden work experience through internship opportunities.

In collaboration with Peking University and Tsinghua University respectively, the Peking University Ng Teng Fong/Sino Education Fund and Tsinghua University Ng Teng Fong/Sino Education Fund were set up to recognise outstanding teachers and students in mainland China.

Ng Teng Fong Thatcher Scholarship at the University of Oxford

The Foundation donated GBP 1.5 million to Somerville College at the University of Oxford for the establishment of the Ng Teng Fong Thatcher Scholarship. Aiming to cultivate excellent talent with international perspectives, the scholarship covers full tuition and provides a generous grant towards living expenses, and is awarded to academically outstanding students who are residents of the People’s Republic of China, Singapore or the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the PRC.

Singapore International School Foundation Ng Teng Fong Merit Scholarship in Hong Kong

The Foundation donated $10 million to Singapore International School (Hong Kong) for the establishment of the Singapore International School Foundation Ng Teng Fong Merit Scholarship. The scholarship covers all tuition fees for the awardees, who have demonstrated academic excellence and extensive involvement in community services.

Partnership with Integrated Brilliant Education to Nurture Children of Different Ethnic Backgrounds

Sino Group (‘the Group’) and its philanthropic arm, Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘NTFCF’), have joined hands with Integrated Brilliant Education (‘IBEL’), an educational non-government organisation (NGO), to provide support for students from different ethnic backgrounds in Hong Kong. With a shared vision to educate and empower children, this collaboration includes the provision of teaching resources for a new, inclusive kindergarten, which aims to enhance Chinese language proficiency from an early age and establish programmes designed to bridge educational and cultural experiences, fostering the integration of children with social and economic needs into the community.

Children from diverse ethnic backgrounds often experience educational difficulties, and language proficiency is crucial for overcoming educational challenges and facilitating social integration. IBEL is committed to empowering students from Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) communities through Chinese language instruction and high-quality educational support, while also prioritising the development of social skills through interactive cultural activities, outings and events. IBEL’s learning centres in Jordan and Sham Shui Po, established in 2015 and 2018 respectively, have supported over 30,000 students.

The newly-established IBEL Rusy and Purviz Shroff Charitable Foundation Kindergarten (‘the kindergarten’) has obtained its licence and commenced operations in April 2024, with new recruitment to come in the approaching academic year. To support the acquisition of teaching resources for the kindergarten, NTFCF has donated a total of HK$1.5 million over a span of three years.

In addition to education, Sino Group and NTFCF have been supporting IBEL’s families since 2021 including the provision of care packs, children’s masks and donations during COVID. The organisation’s services have extended past the norm to also include culturally immersive experiences for their children as well, to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture and strengthen their sense of identity in Hong Kong. The experiences include in-depth explorations of the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the Lantau fishing village through visits to the Tai O Heritage Hotel and its surroundings, engaging festive workshops at The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel during Chinese New Year, and educational visits to the CORAL REEFStoration Centre at Ocean Park.

Donation of RMB 16 million to Support Beijing Normal University and Shaanxi Normal University

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF) made a donation of RMB 16 million to support Beijing Normal University and Shaanxi Normal University in nourishing local teacher talents in China’s western regions.

The donation supports both the Beijing Normal University’s Ng Teng Fong Teacher Development Programme and the Shaanxi Normal University’s Ng Teng Fong Training Programme for Secondary and Primary School Principals, aiming at giving teachers the best chance of succeeding by helping them acquire new knowledge in teaching and leadership, learning to innovate and keeping pace with development in education, and boosting the supply of high-quality teachers and principals in China’s under-resourced rural areas.

Mr Zhang Kai, Vice President of the Beijing Normal University and Director of the Beijing Normal University Education Fund, said ‘With our drive and passion, the University will continue to strive for excellence in teaching, and make greater contributions to rural education and sustain the dynamics of rural development in China’s western regions.’

Mr Lu Shengli, Vice Secretary of the Shaanxi Normal University CPC SNNU Committee and Director of the Shaanxi Normal University Education Fund, said ‘The University will design customised learning and teaching processes for local secondary and primary school principals based on an assessment of their strengths and learning needs.’

Mr Alexander Ng, Director of the NTFCF, said that education is essential to the development of the society. In recent years, NTFCF has continued to devote substantial resources to education in China’s western regions including retaining teacher talents. Mr Ng expects the donations can build hope and create a better learning environment for future leaders.

In 2018, NTFCF donated RMB 20 million to China International Culture Exchange Foundation for the establishment of the ‘Ng Teng Fong Education Fund (The Fund)’ with the aim of supporting the training of outstanding rural teachers in under-resourced rural areas. Over the past years, the Fund has successfully organised multiple teacher effectiveness enhancement programmes, in collaboration with different universities in China such as Beijing Normal University, Guizhou Normal University and Shaanxi Normal University, for some 100 outstanding teacher talents in rural areas of several western provinces, including Gansu, Guizhou, Shaanxi and Sichuan.

Donation of RMB 50 million to Tsinghua University to Support Anti-epidemic Research

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation has donated RMB 50 million to Tsinghua University with the establishment of a Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation scientific research project under ‘Tsinghua University Spring Breeze Fund’. The donation supports Tsinghua University on the research and development in anti-epidemic testing technology, epidemiology, psychological rehabilitation, etc. It helps to enhance research and practice in fields including biosecurity, public health and as well as the country’s ability to cope with major emergencies.

HD/Ng Teng Fong Environmental Protection Fund

The NTFCF has donated RMB 25 million to Beijing HD Environmental Consortium to establish HD/Ng Teng Fong Environmental Protection Fund. The Fund supports philanthropic activities, innovation, research and development related to ecological and environmental protection.

Donation of RMB 12 million to Tsinghua University to Support EMPA Programme

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation has donated RMB 12 million to Tsinghua University to support its Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) Programme, the first EMPA programme on mainland China tailored for Hong Kong executives to groom the next generations of talents with broad perspective.

‘As Hong Kong’s economic and social development increasingly connect with the mainland China, it is important that we have executives who understand Hong Kong, the mainland China and the world for us to continue to play our role as a super connector.  We are delighted to have the opportunity to support this tailored programme.  The 30 participants come from diverse backgrounds, including civil servants, commercial professionals, non-government organisation personnel, reflecting the depth and breadth of the executive programme. Donation of HK$10 million to the Hong Kong 'Police Children’s Education Trust' and the 'Junior Police Call'

The Foundation donated HK$10 Million to the Hong Kong ‘Police Children’s Education Trust’ and the ‘Junior Police Call’.

The ‘Police Children’s Education Trust’ and the ‘Police Education and Welfare Trust’ provides financial support in any expenses associated with scholarships and grants for children of junior police officers. The 2017/18 scholarships were awarded at the Scholarship Presentation Ceremony at the Police Headquarters on 21 August 2018. At the ceremony, Commissioner Lo Wai-chung presented a certificate of appreciation to Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Ms Nikki Ng.

Donation of RMB 200 million to Peking University

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation made a donation of RMB 200 million to support Peking University in recruiting world-class teaching talents and nurturing future leaders. It also serves to encourage the exchanges between the Mainland and Hong Kong, and between China and Singapore. In recognition of the Foundation’s support, Science Academic Building in Peking University was officially renamed as Ng Teng Fong Building. 

Mr Robert Ng, Chairman of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Chairman of Sino Group, said ‘President Xi Jinping has emphasized “China will prosper only when its young people thrive”. We hope that the students will make the most of upcoming opportunities to create a better future for their country, families and themselves.

Donation of RMB 20 million to Nurture Excellent Teachers in Mainland China

The Foundation donated RMB 20 million to China International Culture Exchange Foundation for the establishment of the ‘Ng Teng Fong Education Fund’. The Fund supports the training of outstanding rural teachers in poverty-stricken areas as well as contributes to poverty alleviation projects to enhance the quality of teaching.

Donation of RMB 150 million to support the collaboration between 6 Universities from China and Singapore

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation funded the collaboration between top-tier universities from China and Singapore through a donation of RMB 150 million.

To mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Singapore, three universities from each country signed three Memoranda of Understanding respectively with each other, building on existing strong collaborations between the universities in student and faculty exchanges, and joint research and development.

The universities and their respective partners are Tsinghua University and National University of Singapore (NUS), Peking University and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), as well as Zhejiang University and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

Mr Robert Ng, Chairman of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Chairman of Sino Group, said ‘the Foundation was honoured to support the collaboration. He sincerely hoped that these partnerships of universities between both countries would promote better mutual understanding, learning and cultural exchange, benefitting both researchers and students.’

Sino-Innovation Contribution Scholarship at the Tsinghua University x-lab

In promotion of innovation development, the Foundation established the ‘Sino-Innovation Contribution Scholarship’ in 2015 to commend the outstanding innovation and entrepreneurship programmes of the Tsinghua University x-lab.

Tsinghua’s x-lab is a university-based educational platform established in 2013 to foster student creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Through professional training courses, workshops and lectures, x-lab nurtures students’ innovation capacities and supports them in becoming a new generation of entrepreneurial talents.

Support the Development of Education in Mainland China

The Foundation pays close attention to the development of education in mainland China. Since 2011, the Foundation has donated for seven consecutive years a total of RMB 23 million to Peking University and Tsinghua University, the top academic institutions in China. The donations went to the establishment of an education fund to support exceptional students with financial needs in pursuing higher education, thus fostering talent.

This year, NTFCF donated to 100 local charities and religious groups. This initiative expresses our gratitude for their unwavering support in areas such as elderly and youth welfare, education, mental health, community services, sports, arts and culture, and minority ethnic support. Hung Hom Community Living Room

The Government launched the first Community Living Room in December 2023 at Fuk Wa Street, Sham Shui Po. Sino Group and Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation continue to participate in the Pilot Programme on Community Living Room in 2024, supporting the Hung Hom Community Living Room Project (“the Project”). The Project continued to adopt the strategy of tripartite collaboration among the Government, the business sector and the community. Sino Group and Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation provide the venue and fitting out for the Project, and the Community Care Fund provides funding to commission Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council to operate the Community Living Room, providing targeted support to sub-divided unit households in the district.

The Project located at Room A, 1/F, Sunshine Plaza, 17 Sung On Street, Hung Hom, Kowloon, will offer shared living spaces, including a pantry, dining room, shower room, living room, study room for students, and self-service laundry, among others. Additionally, it will provide service users with learning tutorials, group activities and referrals to social welfare services, among others. The Project, which lasts for three years, commences operation in July 2024. It will run until the end of June 2027.

‘Wellness Lodge’ is located at a seaside lot in Tsing Lung Tau, Castle Peak Road, with a site area of approximately 19,000 sq. ft., enjoying panoramic views of the Kap Shui Mun Bridge and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The project commenced phased occupancy in January 2024, accommodating eligible families and initiating its services. Built using modular integrated construction (MiC), the three-storey project provides 85 units ranging from 125 to 190 sq. ft. suitable for one to three-person families. Each unit comprises an open kitchen, a private bathroom, and a living and dining room equipped with an air conditioner, washing machine, water heater, exhaust fan and induction cooker.

The ‘Wellness Lodge’ provides a wide range of green facilities and services promoting physical and mental well-being. These include a multi-functional activity room integrating STEAM elements, a planting area under the ‘Farm Together’ project, and free Wi-Fi network services. Volunteers from ‘Sino Caring Friends’ will also visit resident families to offer care and support. Moreover, children of resident families are eligible for an additional HK$5,000 bursary per child per academic year to encourage the exploration of talents beyond academics.

Sino Group and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Spread New Year Festive Joy and Warmth with Colleagues and Volunteers to Nearly 2,000 Underprivileged Individuals in the Community

Sino Group (the ‘Group’) and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘NTFCF’) spread festive joy to those in need. The volunteer team, Sino Caring Friends, visited less-resourced families, the elderly living alone, and residents in cubicles and rooftop apartments to celebrate the Lunar New Year. They also joined hands with community partners to organise celebrations for ethnic minority families at the Group’s hotels. Additionally, both ethnic minority and local primary school students were invited to participate in volunteer services, promoting the spirit of giving and sharing, and fostering friendship and harmony within the community. These efforts continue to uphold the values of festive joy, compassion, and inclusivity.

Sino Group continues to serve the elderly with its ‘Hearty Soup Delivery Programme’ for 13 consecutive years. Sino Hotels has served over 52,000 bowls of hot soup to senior citizens during the cold winter over the years. Hotel chefs prepare freshly made, nutritious soup, which is then distributed to those in need by dedicated volunteers in collaboration with community partners. Since November 2023, volunteers have delivered soup to over 1,000 elderly individuals who live alone or in pairs across various community districts, including Sham Shui Po, Yuen Long, Tai O and Sai Wan Ho, to share warmth and care during the cold weather.

Christmas is approaching, donations have been made to 81 local NGOs encompassing a diverse range of community services, including rehabilitation, community and health services, family support, youth assistance, women’s empowerment, homelessness, religious harmony, social enterprises, animal welfare, bereavement support, education, and arts and culture promotion, among others.

First Community Living Room launched to improve quality of life of grass-roots families

Mr Chan said that the current-term Government has always attached great importance to the well-being of the grass-roots and brought together the strengths of the Government, the business sector and the community to enhance their sense of contentment and happiness. The Pilot Programme on Community Living Room is a new key initiative. As the first flagship project under the programme, the Sham Shui Po Community Living Room provides additional space with diversified facilities and services for grass-roots families to meet their needs in daily lives and social activities, thereby improving their quality of life.

On behalf of the Government, Mr Chan expressed sincere thanks to the Sino Group and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation for providing the venue as well as the Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, as the operator. Other enterprises and district organisations with dedication and capability are also encouraged to join the Pilot Programme on Community Living Room. The Government invites all sectors to act in concert and develop more Community Living Rooms for the benefit of more grass-roots families to build a more caring and inclusive community.

Prior to the ceremony, accompanied by other officiating guests, Mr Chan toured the facilities of the Community Living Room, including the reception area, the interview rooms, and the communal living room for doing homework, holding interest classes and group activities, as well as shared cooking equipment and dining area for beneficiary households to cook, dine and mingle. This flagship project provides additional facilities including the self-service laundry, the shower cubicles, the children’s corner and reading room, the sports facilities and the case interview room. Mr Chan and guests visited these shared facilities and services to take a closer look at how they improve the living and community environment of the sub-divided unit households.

“The Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address” set out the Pilot Programme on Community Living Room, while embarking on a study to tackle the issue of sub-divided units in the long term. The pilot programme continued to adopt the strategy of tripartite collaboration among the Government, the business sector and the community, under which the business sector provides venues and the Community Care Fund provides funding to commission non-governmental organisations to operate the Community Living Rooms, providing targeted support to sub-divided unit households in the district. The Community Living Rooms offer shared pantries and dining rooms as well as common spaces for doing homework, holding interest classes and group activities, providing sub-divided unit households with additional living space in their respective communities. To strengthen community support for the service targets, the pilot programme also arranges information and talks, and makes referrals to other community services as appropriate. The business sector and local organisations are also approached for in-kind donations (e.g. food or food vouchers) and providing volunteer services (e.g. learning support to students).

Located on 1/F, 188 Fuk Wa Street, the Sham Shui Po Community Living Room will operate for a period of three years and is expected to serve at least 500 sub-divided unit households, with about 80 000 attendances a year.

Mr Chan; the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Chris Sun; the Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, Ms Nikki Ng; the Executive Director of the Sino Group, Mr Victor Tin; the Permanent Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Ms Alice Lau; the Director of Social Welfare, Miss Charmaine Lee; and the Chairman of the Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon, Mr Lee Shing-kan, jointly officiated at the plaque unveiling ceremony and listened to Christmas carols performed by mentees of the Strive and Rise Programme, another targeted poverty alleviation project under the Commission on Poverty. They then played games with and presented Christmas gifts to children and parents of over 20 beneficiary households.

Prior to the ceremony, accompanied by other officiating guests, Mr Chan toured the facilities of the Community Living Room, including the reception area, the interview rooms, and the communal living room for doing homework, holding interest classes and group activities, as well as shared cooking equipment and dining area for beneficiary households to cook, dine and mingle. This flagship project provides additional facilities including the self-service laundry, the shower cubicles, the children’s corner and reading room, the sports facilities and the case interview room. Mr Chan and guests visited these shared facilities and services to take a closer look at how they improve the living and community environment of the sub-divided unit households.

“The Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address” set out the Pilot Programme on Community Living Room, while embarking on a study to tackle the issue of sub-divided units in the long term. The pilot programme continued to adopt the strategy of tripartite collaboration among the Government, the business sector and the community, under which the business sector provides venues and the Community Care Fund provides funding to commission non-governmental organisations to operate the Community Living Rooms, providing targeted support to sub-divided unit households in the district. The Community Living Rooms offer shared pantries and dining rooms as well as common spaces for doing homework, holding interest classes and group activities, providing sub-divided unit households with additional living space in their respective communities. To strengthen community support for the service targets, the pilot programme also arranges information and talks, and makes referrals to other community services as appropriate. The business sector and local organisations are also approached for in-kind donations (e.g. food or food vouchers) and providing volunteer services (e.g. learning support to students).

Located on 1/F, 188 Fuk Wa Street, the Sham Shui Po Community Living Room will operate for a period of three years and is expected to serve at least 500 sub-divided unit households, with about 80 000 attendances a year.

‘Generations Connect’ Project aims to help boost the well-being of 10,000 elderly
HKU medical students to participate in community visits to encourage eHealth literacy improvement of the elderly

e-Health Literacy is closely related to the health and well-being of the elderly. Sino Group and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with the School of Nursing, LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (“HKUMed”), and charitable organisations and NGOs, launched the ‘Generations Connect’ project (“The Project”) to connect young people and the elderly through community intervention and behavioural coaching. Integrating the concept of e-Health Literacy, with an emphasis on preventive care and self-care management, the Project aims to help the elderly keep abreast of practical e-health tools to improve health. A recent pilot study showed that nearly 70% of the elderly have a low level of e-Health Literacy, and their family happiness index is also relatively low.

The ‘Generations Connect’ project launched a pilot scheme in November last year, arranging workshops for HKUMed nursing students to enhance their skills for better communication with the elderly. They visited over 100 elderly people and conducted surveys and assessments of their physical and mental health. This shows our care for the elderly, while the data will be analysed to understand the elderly’s mobile phone use behaviours and eHealth Literacy levels, as preliminary reference for the Project. The two-year ‘Generations Connect’ project was officially launched earlier this year, expanding beyond nursing students to include students of the School of Chinese Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, and School of Public Health as ambassadors of the Project. Over 1,000 healthcare professional students are expected to participate, providing services to 10,000 elderly people and assisting them in adapting to post-pandemic life and taking care of their physical, psychological, and mental health and wellbeing.

At present, one-fifth of the local population in Hong Kong is elderly, and there will be one elderly for every four people in the future. This project, supported by Sino Group, closely follows the theme that the government is keen to promote and mobilise young students to care for the elderly and achieve inter-generational integration. Secondly, the project leverages the students’ familiarity with technology, not only teaching the elderly to use technology, but also combining offline services such as visitations to establish a relationship with the elderly. Thank you for Sino Group’s HK$10 million funding to this project; it has inspired 1,000 students to help 10,000 elderly. I look forward to the project’s success and the plan’s expansion in the future to continue contributing to the cause of elderly care.”

Professor Sophia Chan, GBS, JP, Professor of the School of Nursing of HKUMed and Project Director, said, ‘It is our honour to have the support of Sino Group and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation to provide the school with an opportunity to work with 11 local charitable organisations and NGOs on providing evidence-based health interventions to the elderly. We observed that the elderly with high level of e-Health Literacy have better physical, psychosocial and mental wellbeing. As the elderly population grows, social and medical care demand increases. The pilot study found that among the 70% of elderly persons who completed the two-week follow-up, the rate of low e-Health Literacy dropped from 66% to 56%, providing initial evidence that the intervention by nursing students is useful in strengthening their e-Health Literacy. In addition, the Project received very positive feedback from the students, who demonstrated a higher level of affective empathy, intellectual empathy and self-efficacy after participation. Nearly 90% of them believe that this experience helped them improve their communication skills with the elderly, become better listeners, and gain better knowledge in health and care for the elderly.

I am delighted to see this Project effectively assisting the elderly in adapting to post-pandemic life, learning to access pertinent information from the internet, enhancing their emotional resilience, and fostering a positive and energetic lifestyle. It is very encouraging to see caring and enthusiastic young people getting involved in practical training and willing to learn the skills needed to help the elderly, expressing respect, love and care for them.’

According to the survey conducted during the ‘Generations Connect’ pilot scheme, 89% of the 104 elderly respondents with an average age of 80 own smartphones; however, the e-Health Literacy of 69% of the respondents was lower than the ideal. 61% of the elderly spend less than an hour a day on their phones, using them mainly for contacting family members and watching videos. Only 31% used their phones to search for health-related information online. Compared with elderly people with higher e-Health Literacy scores, the preliminary research data of the pilot study shows that those with lower scores had poor mental health conditions (9% vs 16%) and felt lonely (15% vs 21%). On a scale of 0 to 10, those with low e-Health Literacy also had lower family happiness (7.4 vs 8.0) and family communication quality (7.5 vs 7.9). Although there is no statistically significant difference in the analysis at this stage, the initial findings reflect that improving the e-Health Literacy of the elderly could help improve their wellbeing.

With the Lunar New Year approaching, shopping for new clothes and other festive items is a tradition to start the new year. Sino Group (‘the Group’) and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘NTFCF’) have launched festive care programmes to bring festive cheer to over 10,000 underprivileged people and the Group’s frontline colleagues. In collaboration with more than 30 community partners, this year’s Spring Festival Programme continues to share the warmth of the season with less-resourced families, the elderly living alone, the minorities and the people with varying abilities through home visits and gifting, as well as by supporting people in need to buy new clothes and other items to welcome the Year of the Rabbit.

Mr Daryl Ng, Deputy Chairman of Sino Group and Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, said, ‘The Lunar New Year is one of the most important festivals in the Chinese culture, but the preparation of new year items may also be a financial burden to underprivileged families. (Hong Kong, 12 January 2023) With the Lunar New Year approaching, shopping for new clothes and other festive items is a tradition to start the new year. Sino Group (‘the Group’) and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘NTFCF’) have launched festive care programmes to bring festive cheer to over 10,000 underprivileged people and the Group’s frontline colleagues. In collaboration with more than 30 community partners, this year’s Spring Festival Programme continues to share the warmth of the season with less-resourced families, the elderly living alone, the minorities and the people with varying abilities through home visits and gifting, as well as by supporting people in need to buy new clothes and other items to welcome the Year of the Rabbit.

Mr Daryl Ng, Deputy Chairman of Sino Group and Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, said, ‘The Lunar New Year is one of the most important festivals in the Chinese culture, but the preparation of new year items may also be a financial burden to underprivileged families. It is believed that wearing new clothes symbolises a new start and fresh hopes for the new year, and thus we sponsor less-resourced families including the elderly and our frontline colleagues to buy new shirts, pants and shoes, hoping that everyone can celebrate an auspicious start to the Year of the Rabbit. We are also thankful to our like-minded community partners and various major chain store operators for their support to bring the underprivileged the season’s blessings.’

Enjoying time with family and friends, sending greetings, going shopping and buying new clothes are festive traditions associated with celebrating the Lunar New Year. This year, the Group invited a number of popular retail chains to join hands in extending joyful greetings, including AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., Dr. Kong Footcare Limited, Marathon Sports, SKECHERS and UNIQLO. A total of HK$5 million has been donated by the NTFCF to sponsor people in need to purchase new clothes, shoes and other related items in Olympian City, Citywalk and TMT Plaza, as well as participating merchant shops in other locations.

Ms Nikki Ng, Group General Manager of Sino Group and Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, has accompanied underprivileged families and the elderly to shop in the UNIQLO store at Olympian City in the spirit of hope and renewal. The Group and NTFCF also invited young residents of Children’s Homes to enjoy a Christmas buffet lunch at the Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel and The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong. ‘Generations Connect’ Project Brings Young People Together with the Elderly to Boost Emotional Resilience

In recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, elderly people have had to stay mostly at home. Confined to small living spaces for prolonged periods, many senior citizens have been prone to emotional challenges, affecting their mental wellbeing and health. Sino Group (‘the Group’) and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘NTFCF’), in collaboration with the School of Nursing, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (‘HKUMed’), and charitable organisations and NGOs, announced the launch of the two-year ‘Generations Connect’ Project (‘the Project’) to bring young people together with the elderly in an initiative that will see over 1,000 nursing students providing community intervention and behavioural coaching. Integrated with the concept of e-health literacy, the Project aims to enhance the physical, psychosocial and mental wellbeing of the elderly amid the epidemic. With the target of serving 10,000 elderly people, the Project will commence in November this year with its first phase of pilot services.

HKU Nursing Students Offer Personalised Support to 10,000 Elderly People
Supported by a HK$10 million joint donation from the Group and the NTFCF, the School of Nursing of HKUMed, and eleven charitable organisations and NGOs will be devising the scope of services in tandem to focus on the needs of the elderly aged 65 or above. Coupled with the domain knowledge of HKUMed’s nursing curricula, the Project will also develop an elderly-friendly e-platform and mobile app. Nursing students will build relationships with the elderly and engage them in dialogue to promote health and wellbeing through regular home visits, phone greetings and video conferencing. Self-care tips for COVID-19, health assessments, and mental health education will also be offered to provide timely and appropriate support for those in need. In addition, the Project will organise various activities to encourage them to cultivate healthy hobbies and expand their social circle for the holistic improvement of mental health, lifestyle and overall wellbeing.

Tailored Wellbeing Online Platform for the Elderly
With more and more elderly people becoming familiar with mobile apps for communication, the concept of Mobile Health (‘mHealth’) is being integrated into this Project with a specially curated health benefit-focused e-platform tailored to the needs of the elderly. With personalised support from the nursing students, elderly people can learn to access pertinent information, training materials, games and videos, cultivating their eHealth literacy. With an emphasis on preventative care and self-help health resources, the Project aims at encouraging the elderly to keep abreast of developments in public e-health services moving forward. Those facing difficulties in using the Internet will also be assisted through agile support services.

In addition to support services for the elderly in need, the School of Nursing, HKUMed will leverage two years of clinical data and application cases to study the effectiveness of community interventions for improving the physical and mental health of the elderly in Hong Kong. Training workshops facilitated by charitable organisations and NGOs will also help upgrade the skills of nursing students for better communication with the elderly, while giving them the opportunity to put what they have learnt into practice.

Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee, the School of Nursing of HKUMed, said, ‘The School and I are honoured to receive this generous donation from Sino Group and the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, and for the opportunity to work with eleven local charitable organisations and NGOs to enhance the health and wellbeing of the elderly, as well as their capability of using electronic devices in communication. As the elderly population grows, demand for social and medical care increases. The School of Nursing proactively offers various intervention activities to enhance communication with the elderly and enable early assessment of their physical and mental health, providing timely support and improving the elderly’s skills in coping with the challenges of life, and enhancing their wellbeing and quality of life. HKUMed’s School of Nursing offers comprehensive training in nursing, preparing students to serve the community and safeguard public health.’

‘The young nursing students are dynamic and radiant, and ready to unleash their creativity as they design effective means of communication with the elderly under this Project, which blends curriculum teaching and research. In so doing, the students may contribute not only to building closer ties across generations, but also promoting the physical and mental health of the elderly. This Project aims at helping the elderly adopt a healthy lifestyle and increase their health awareness using a preventive approach, which aligns with the Government’s policy of strengthening primary health care in the community. It will prepare and highlight students’ roles as health coaches in promoting elderly health in the community,’ added Professor Chan.

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘NTFCF’) today announced a donation of HK$8 million to eight charitable organisations in support of their community service provisions for underprivileged families, students and the elderly who are facing potential health challenges during this critical time.

As the pandemic situation continues, there is a surging demand for support for underprivileged families and the elderly. In view of the new school year approaching, support for the less-resourced students is also essential. The NTFCF is donating HK$1 million to each of eight local charitable organisations, namely Caritas Hong Kong, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, Lok Sin Tong, Po Leung Kuk, Pok Oi Hospital, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Yan Chai Hospital Social Services Department, and Yan Oi Tong. Through the donations, the NTFCF wishes to provide timely and appropriate support to those in need in the community, including underprivileged students, the elderly, families living in sub-divided units and ethnic minorities, etc., for the provision of a range of services including:

• Anti-epidemic support including rapid antigen test kits, nutritious meals and urgent care services for less-resourced families and students;
• Chinese and Western medical support for recovered patients with the symptoms of ‘post COVID-19 condition’;
• Emergency support for less-resourced families undergoing home quarantine;
• Telemedicine services for the underprivileged and the elderly affected by the pandemic as well as prevention and recovery support;
• Anti-epidemic supplies for the elderly and the less-resourced to prevent the spread of the virus among vulnerable groups;
• Home cleaning and anti-virus coating spray services for the elderly in need and families with poor living conditions.

In addition to handing out on the street, the Group and the NTFCF are distributing 200,000 cans of Yeo’s drinks to people living in sub-divided units in collaboration with 20 community partners, who will distribute 10,000 drink cards imprinted with a dedicated QR code, each entitling the cardholder to 20 cans of drinks from designated vending machines in various districts in Hong Kong. Drinks can be collected from now until 31 October 2022. To further help people living in sub-divided units to cope with the hot weather, electric fans will be provided through community partners upon request.

Sino Group and Pumen Foundation Develop ‘Wellness Lodge’ Transitional Homes to Alleviate Short-term Housing Needs of Underprivileged Families

Sino Group (the ‘Group’) announced that it is leasing a parcel of seaside land in Tsing Lung Tau, Tsuen Wan, New Territories, at nominal rent for the development of the transitional housing project, ‘Wellness Lodge’, in collaboration with charitable organisation Pumen Foundation Limited (‘Pumen Foundation’). Aligning with the Group’s vision of ‘Creating Better Lifescapes’, the project promotes green features and wellness in its design and planning while fulfilling the needs of the underprivileged, to facilitate a healthy living experience to beneficiary families and children.

Located at a seaside lot in Tsing Lung Tau, Castle Peak Road, the site area is approximately 19,000 sq. ft. and the project will enjoy panoramic views of the stunning landscape of Kap Shui Mun Bridge, promoting a healthy lifestyle. ‘Wellness Lodge’ is expected to be completed with related services in operation in Q4 of 2023, ready for eligible families to move in. The operation period will be about five years.

Amenities to Promote Physical and Mental Health
‘Wellness Lodge’ features a number of amenities that promote physical and mental health. These include the first multi-functional activity room incorporating STEAM elements, a farming area referencing the Group’s integrated green community project ‘Farm Together’, free Wi-Fi network, as well as vocational support for residents, such as job matching and training, among others. Based on children’s needs, the Group will also work with Pumen Foundation to offer a variety of courses including STEAM-related and coding courses to facilitate talent development, while volunteers of Sino Caring Friends will visit and play with the kids to share moments of caring companionship.

To understand the needs of underprivileged families, the Group and its philanthropic arm, Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘NTFCF’), will continue to work with Pumen Foundation when ‘Wellness Lodge’ begins operation and provide HK$5,000 per academic year to each child of the residents via the Ng Teng Fong Scholarship, to encourage talent development beyond academic studies. In addition, NTFCF will offer financial support for Pumen Foundation to organise interest classes and courses for the families and their children.

Catering to the Needs of Elderly and Physically Challenged Persons
‘Wellness Lodge’ will be built using modular integrated construction (MIC). The building will be three-storeys high and is expected to provide 85 units for underprivileged families at nominal rents. Measuring between 146 to 197 sq. ft., each unit can accommodate families of one to three, while families in need can be accommodated in adjacent units. Each unit will comprise an open kitchen, a private bathroom, and a living and dining room. The needs of elderly residents and the physically challenged will also be taken into consideration. The project is conveniently located on Castle Peak Road with multiple bus and minibus lines that allow for direct travel to and from various locations in the city. Residents can obtain daily necessities within a 10-minute walk.

The Assessment Committee for the ‘Funding Scheme to Support Transitional Housing Projects by Non-government Organisations’ under the Transport and Housing Bureau agreed to subsidise the project in late February. Pumen Foundation will be in charge of the building work, selection of residents, daily operations, etc., via a committee composed of representatives from different sectors.

Yeo’s and Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Enter into 3-year Partnership with World Kitefoiling Champion Maximilian Maeder

Yeo Hiap Seng (Yeo’s) and The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF) and today announced a three-year partnership with Maximilian Maeder, the 15-year-old Singaporean world champion in kitefoiling, and the Singapore Sailing Federation (SSF).

By partnering with Max, NTFCF and Yeo’s hope to inspire youth in Singapore and Asia to maximise their potential through hard work, goal setting and tenacity.

Separately, the NTFCF will donate SG$25,000 a year for three years, or SG$75,000 in total, to the SSF for the coaching, equipment and personal development of kitefoiling sailors in Singapore. The donation will be matched dollar for dollar by the One Team Singapore Fund, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

The sponsorship funds will go towards Max’s expenses in his training, coaching, equipment and personal development. The agreement with Max will run from 31 March 2022 to 31 December 2024, with an option to renew for four years.

Max took up kitefoiling at the age of 10, and within five years excelled in a sport that will debut at the 2024 Summer Olympics. This month, he took gold at the Formula Kite Asia Pacific Championships, a victory that followed last year’s Formula Kite Youth (U19) World Championships, the European Championships and the World Sailing Youth (Under-19) World Championships in Oman last December.

Sino Group and Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Step Up COVID Support for Children and the Elderly 20,000 oximeters, 250,000 child-sized masks and cash donated to support operational needs of NGOs to deliver community services

Sino Group and its philanthropic arm, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF), are stepping up support for children and the elderly in combating COVID-19.  The Group and NTFCF are donating 20,000 oximeters to residential care homes and elderly living alone in collaboration with its community partners, including the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council (HKSKHWC), Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, Caritas Social Work Division and Sik Sik Yuen Social Services Coordination Office. Distribution is slated for the week of 14 March 2022.

Among the 20,000 oximeters, 3,000 will be distributed by the HKSKHWC to nine elderly homes and three rehabilitation centres it supports as well as private elderly homes that they work with. The Group and NTFCF are also donating HK$1 million to HKSKHWC to support the operational needs of elderly homes and rehabilitation centres under its auspices.

Oximeter is a handy medical device measuring the user’s blood oxygen level and pulse rate, which are important physiological parameters for health assessment.  It is useful for detecting irregularities in respiratory cycles and early signs of deterioration for prompt medical care.

Additionally, the Group and NTFCF are distributing 250,000 child-sized masks to children from underprivileged families and ethnic minorities in collaboration with community partners including the Hong Kong Islamic Youth Association, the Pakistan Islamic Welfare Union, the Hong Kong Nepalese Federation and Society for Community Organization.

Sino Group and Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Donate HK$5 Million to Support Underprivileged Children Amid the Pandemic

The fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic in Hong Kong is very challenging with children’s health a particular concern for parents. Sino Group and its philanthropic arm, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Limited (‘NTFCF’), today announced a donation of HK$5 million to the Hospital Authority to provide support to the Paediatric services in the public hospitals, including the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital. To step up our support to the underprivileged children and their families confined to home in the fight against the epidemic, the Group is also collaborating with non-governmental organisation to provide temporary accommodation for underprivileged families living in subdivided units which are not suitable for isolation. Online learning courses will also be offered to children confined to home in the fight against the epidemic.

Through the HK$5 million donation to the Hospital Authority, the Group and NTFCF wish to provide appropriate support to the Paediatric services concerned, such as purchase of medical equipment, medicines, emergency assistance and anti-epidemic supplies, with the aim of supporting the hospital services for child patients and their families.

Supporting Underprivileged Families in Need with Temporary Accommodation

In addition, in view of the needs of underprivileged families living in subdivided units and unable to quarantine at home due to neighbouring infected households, the Group is collaborating with the Society for Community Organization to support families living in subdivided units and in urgent need of relocation to a safer environment.  The Group is also collaborating with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to provide short-term accommodation for this year’s Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination candidates who live in subdivided units. The funding will allow them to take up temporary residence at the Leadership Institute (former Fanling Magistracy) to support their academic and emotional needs.

Collaborating with Ocean Park to Provide Online Learning Opportunities

In line with the Government’s disease prevention measures, students will start their summer holidays early in the fight against the pandemic. The Group is joining hands with Ocean Park to offer a series of online learning activities to 10,000 children aged three to eight during this period. The four-week course will introduce the concept of biodiversity and animal knowledge through storytelling and games, allowing children from underprivileged families to benefit from these interesting activities while staying at home.

Sino Group and Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Donate HK$5 Million to Support Underprivileged Children Amid the Pandemic

The fifth wave of the COVID-19 epidemic in Hong Kong is very challenging with children’s health a particular concern for parents. Sino Group and its philanthropic arm, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Limited (‘NTFCF’), today announced a donation of HK$5 million to the Hospital Authority to provide support to the Paediatric services in the public hospitals, including the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital. To step up our support to the underprivileged children and their families confined to home in the fight against the epidemic, the Group is also collaborating with non-governmental organisation to provide temporary accommodation for underprivileged families living in subdivided units which are not suitable for isolation. Online learning courses will also be offered to children confined to home in the fight against the epidemic.

Through the HK$5 million donation to the Hospital Authority, the Group and NTFCF wish to provide appropriate support to the Paediatric services concerned, such as purchase of medical equipment, medicines, emergency assistance and anti-epidemic supplies, with the aim of supporting the hospital services for child patients and their families.

Supporting Underprivileged Families in Need with Temporary Accommodation

In addition, in view of the needs of underprivileged families living in subdivided units and unable to quarantine at home due to neighbouring infected households, the Group is collaborating with the Society for Community Organization to support families living in subdivided units and in urgent need of relocation to a safer environment.  The Group is also collaborating with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to provide short-term accommodation for this year’s Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination candidates who live in subdivided units. The funding will allow them to take up temporary residence at the Leadership Institute (former Fanling Magistracy) to support their academic and emotional needs.

Collaborating with Ocean Park to Provide Online Learning Opportunities

In line with the Government’s disease prevention measures, students will start their summer holidays early in the fight against the pandemic. The Group is joining hands with Ocean Park to offer a series of online learning activities to 10,000 children aged three to eight during this period. The four-week course will introduce the concept of biodiversity and animal knowledge through storytelling and games, allowing children from underprivileged families to benefit from these interesting activities while staying at home.

Belun® remoVital remote monitoring system, a Hong Kong home-grown innovation, is a remote, real-time monitoring system comprising FDA 510(k)-cleared Belun® Ring, body temperature probe and a communication hub that enables real-time monitoring of health conditions of patients. It measures and monitors the user’s pivotal physiological parameters including blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate and body temperature. Thanks to its internet-enabled features, real-time alerts of parameters exceeding pre-set thresholds will be issued, enabling prompt actions for patients with abnormal parameters. People must get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves and others. SINGAPORE, 10 JULY 2021 – The inaugural e-KidsExcel@Nee Soon programme, a corporate social responsibility initiative sponsored by the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF), the philanthropic arm of Sino Group, and The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts was launched in March 2021. The e-KidsExcel@Nee Soon programme is organised in partnership with Nee Soon Group Representative Constituency (GRC) and Viva Kids, an educational social enterprise that aims to provide high-quality academic enrichment to primary level students.

The official launch of the programme on 17 March 2021 at Yishun Primary School was graced by Guest-of-Honour Minister K. Shanmugam (Minister for Law and Home Affairs and Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC).

Both the NTFCF and The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts are committed to nurturing the younger generation and developing their strengths in the fields of innovation and technology. The two year-long developmental programme is designed to support the educational development of 110 under-resourced children from Naval Base Primary School, North View Primary School and Yishun Primary School who are on the Ministry of Education’s Financial Assistance Scheme. Through this initiative, the NTFCF and The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, together with Viva Kids and the partner schools, aim to provide the children with the resources and exposure they need to enjoy a holistic learning experience via a hybrid learning model, encompassing both digital engagement and face-to-face learning experiences.

e-KidsExcel@Nee Soon comprises weekly online academic tutoring lessons for 110 Primary 3 and 4 students in either Science or Mathematics depending on the students’ needs. All programme participants were provided with a Samsung Android tablet and a set of device accessories (physical keyboard, protective cover and stylus) together with 50GB of monthly mobile connectivity to facilitate their participation in the online lessons. The tablet is the main learning device through which the students are attending weekly online live-teaching classes conducted by trained teachers from Viva Kids. In addition, digital learning resources based on the Ministry of Education’s syllabus framework and Viva Kids uniforms were also provided to the students.

To create a more holistic learning experience, the students will also participate in the Fullerton Academy programme – The Fullerton Hotel Singapore’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiative designed to help under-resourced children gain learning opportunities in the fields of hospitality. Through Fullerton Academy sessions which are curated and led by staff from The Fullerton Hotels Singapore, participants of the e-KidsExcel programme can enjoy interactive workshops including the opportunity to acquire culinary skills from Fullerton Chefs, and to learn about The Fullerton Hotels and Resorts’ sustainability efforts through experiential excursions to the Fullerton Farm.

In view of the need for immediate assistance, Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Sino Group (the ‘Group’) jointly launched a six-month meal donation programme (the ‘programme’) in collaboration with community partners. It is expected to distribute over 60,000 hot nutritious meal boxes to individuals and families in need in Hong Kong.

The community partners supporting this programme include Pei Ho (Ming Gor) Charity Foundation, The ABM Hong Kong Swatow Baptist Church Community Service Association, People Service Centre, J Life Foundation, and International Church of the Foursquare Gospel Hong Kong District. The service areas cover districts in Kowloon and the New Territories, including San Po Kong, Sham Shui Po, To Kwa Wan, Tuen Mun and Shatin.

Running from April till the end of October, the six-month programme will create job opportunities in transport and logistics, adding to the support from the Group’s volunteer team.

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and The Fullerton Hotel Singapore Partner with Viva Kids, Singapore to Launch the e-KidsExcel @ Nee Soon Programme

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and The Fullerton Hotel Singapore have recently launched a two year-long developmental programme, e-KidsExcel @ Nee Soon (e-KidsExcel), for some 110 under-resourced Primary 3 and 4 students who are on the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) Financial Assistance Scheme in Singapore since 23 March 2021.

In partnership with a local educational social enterprise, Viva Kids, the e-KidsExcel aims to providing weekly online academic tutoring lessons in either Science or Mathematics and various out-of-classroom activities, including coding workshops, bi-annual sports leagues as well as Fullerton Academy programmes such as culinary workshops and Fullerton Farm excursions, subject to the latest COVID-19 regulations and measures, for the students.

The launching sessions for the e-KidsExcel were successfully held between 15 and 18 March 2021 at three primary schools in Singapore, namely North View Primary School, Yishun Primary School and Naval Base Primary School. Meanwhile, every attended student was given a Samsung tablet with mobile connectivity and digital learning resources.

In addition, the e-KidsExcel targets on seeing an improvement of 10% in end-of-year exam results for at least 50% of the students and for 75% of their parents to report a positive improvement in their child’s behaviour in various aspects. To ensure a holistic and fun learning experience for students, the programme will be assessed at the end of each academic year.

Donation of Nutrition Drinks to Medical Practitioners

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Yeo’s have joined hands to extend heartfelt appreciation and festive blessings to medical practitioners, who have been working tirelessly and professionally to keep the community safe. More than 76,000 cans of Yeo’s nutrition drinks such as grass jelly, chrysanthemum tea and sugar cane have been delivered to 19 hospitals of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority.

Donation of Gift Packs to 42 Elderly Homes to Support Frontline Colleagues

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation donated around 4,200 gift packs to 42 elderly homes on 21 & 22 August to support their frontline colleagues who have been paying much effort in taking care of the elderly during the COVID-19 situation.

The gift packs customised for the needs of colleagues working at elderly homes included nutrition drinks, vitamin tablets, pain relief patches and disinfection products. With the support from over 20 volunteers, around 4,200 gift packs were prepared for the 2-day delivery.

The beneficiaries included The Chinese Rhenish Church Hong Kong Synod, Heung Hoi Ching Kok Lin Association, Hong Kong Christian Service, Kiangsu Chekiang and Shanghai Residents (Hong Kong) Association, Sik Sik Yuen, The Women’s Welfare Club (Eastern District) Hong Kong, and others.

Sino Group Supports Needy in the Community through Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation while Safeguarding Health and Wellbeing of Employees amid COVID-19 Situation

Sino Group (‘the Group’) has been supporting the local community through the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (‘the NTFCF’) while continuing to take care of the health and wellbeing of its employees amid the on-going COVID-19 situation.

Many less-resourced families and individuals in the community have been greatly affected by the impact of COVID-19 on their lives and livelihoods. In view of the critical need to help needy families, individuals, and ethnic minority groups within society, the NTFCF has taken the initiative to donate essential food items such as rice, noodles, hot meal coupons, and drinks through six community partners, the Society for Community Organization; Asbury Methodist Social Service; Christian Concern for the Homeless Association; St James’ Settlement; Kwun Tong Methodist Social Service; and The Zubin Foundation. In addition, the NTFCF has also engaged community kitchen, Joyous Kitchen, and donated frozen food, rice, and condiments for the preparation of nutritious hot meals for people in need. In total, the NTFCF will donate around 40,000 meals through this food donation drive.

‘The demand for immediate food assistance has increased in the first quarter. We are thankful to the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation for donating food items and meal coupons. The support is especially crucial during this critical period,’ said Ms Noel Yeung, General Secretary of Kwun Tong Methodist Social Service.

Meanwhile, in appreciation of the dedicated work of its employees during this challenging time and to safeguard their health, the Group, for the second time, distributed around 10,000 care packs to its employees. The care packs were prepared by staff volunteers, with each pack containing a box of surgical masks, hand sanitising gel, disinfectant spray and wipes, as well as mask holders and electrolyte drinks. The Group hopes to keep colleagues safe and to strengthen their immunity during this period.

Since February 2020, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF) has been supporting the local and international communities in combating the COVID-19 situation through aids and assistance in various areas.

The Hospital Authority presented a certificate of appreciation to the NTFCF at a ceremony held on 7 May 2020 in honour of the Foundation’s staunch support to the healthcare staff of public hospitals.

Donation of 8,000 N95 Masks to Hospital in Australia

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and The Fullerton Hotel Sydney have donated 8,000 N95 masks to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia to support efforts in combating the novel coronavirus situation. The N95 masks will be delivered to the hospital in two shipments starting from the week of 30 March 2020.

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Donated 5 million Masks to Support the Community and Made Cash Donations to Over 30 Hong Kong NGOs to support community services

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF) has donated five million surgical masks to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and made cash donations to over 30 local NGOs to support their community services amid the novel coronavirus situation.

Over the past months, the NTFCF has been sourcing surgical masks globally for distribution to people and families in need through the Government and community partners. In addition to the 3.5 million surgical masks delivered earlier, the NTFCF has donated another 1.5 million masks to the Government.

Additionally, the NTFCF has made cash donations to over 30 local NGOs to support their community work, ensuring resources to help those in need. The community partners include Pei Ho (Ming Gor) Charity Foundation, Concern for Grassroots’ Livelihood Alliance, Hong Kong Unison, Hong Kong Network for the Promotion of Inclusive Society, Say Yeah and Rescue Centre for Abandoned Pets.  They cater to a diverse spectrum of needs, including the physically challenged, less-resourced families, children with special education needs, the elderly, mental health and minority groups.

Earlier, the NTFCF procured two fully automated mask making machines with a combined production capacity of 200,000 masks per day to support the Government’s efforts in ensuring a steady supply of masks going forward.

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Provides Educational Support for Children amid Class Suspension

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF) provided educational support for children from underprivileged families amid class suspension.

The NTFCF has donated 1,000 educational toys to children living in sub-divided units and cubicle homes as well as children with special healthcare needs through 11 community partners, enhancing children’s development through fun learning.

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Donates Medical Supplies and Mask Machines to Support the Community

Hong Kong, 26 February 2020…..The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF) has donated 17,500 protective gowns / PPE; 20,000 N95 1860 respirators; 12,000 type IIR surgical masks with visor; 8,000 medical face shields; 1,000 medical eye shields; 1,000 safety goggles; 10,000 pocket-sized hand sanitisers and 5,000 tubes of Vitamin C supplements for Hospital Authority medical colleagues. This is the latest effort to support the community in combating the novel coronavirus situation, in the wake of donation of over 3,500,000 surgical masks to the HKSAR Government and NGOs as an immediate relief measure.

The first batch of approximately 4,000 protective gowns / PPE has been delivered to the Hospital Authority.

Additionally, the Foundation has ordered two fully automated mask making machines with a total production capacity of 200,000 masks per day to support the government’s efforts in producing masks and ensuring a sustainable supply going forward. The mask making machines are expected to arrive in Hong Kong in three weeks, they will be handed over to the HKSAR Government upon arrival.

Hong Kong, 26 February 2020…..The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF) has donated 17,500 protective gowns / PPE; 20,000 N95 1860 respirators; 12,000 type IIR surgical masks with visor; 8,000 medical face shields; 1,000 medical eye shields; 1,000 safety goggles; 10,000 pocket-sized hand sanitisers and 5,000 tubes of Vitamin C supplements for Hospital Authority medical colleagues. This is the latest effort to support the community in combating the novel coronavirus situation, in the wake of donation of over 3,500,000 surgical masks to the HKSAR Government and NGOs as an immediate relief measure.

The first batch of approximately 4,000 protective gowns / PPE has been delivered to the Hospital Authority.

Additionally, the Foundation has ordered two fully automated mask making machines with a total production capacity of 200,000 masks per day to support the government’s efforts in producing masks and ensuring a sustainable supply going forward. The mask making machines are expected to arrive in Hong Kong in three weeks, they will be handed over to the HKSAR Government upon arrival.

Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Donated Over 3.5 million Face Masks to the Community

The globally-sourced surgical masks have been distributed to underprivileged families and people with needs in different districts as an immediate relief measure through the government and over 20 community partners including the Society for Community Organisation, Po Leung Kuk, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Lok Sin Tong.  The efforts also include 50,000 child-size masks for NGOs specialising in children’s services such as Precious Blood Children’s Village, Hong Kong Christian Service, S.K.H. St. Christopher’s Home, St. James’ Settlement, the Children’s Heart Foundation and the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Donation for Awardees of The Spirit of Hong Kong Awards and Social Welfare Organisations

The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Presentation Ceremony was held on 20 September 2019 at The Royal Pacific Hotel. More than 40 awardees of The Spirit of Hong Kong Awards and 50 non-governmental organisations and social enterprises received the donation from the Foundation at the ceremony. This is to pay tribute to the awardees and to recognize their contributions over the years. The Foundation continues to support the good work of the organisations and to serve the community together. In addition, Ocean Park tickets were also presented to the awardees and organisations for enjoying a relaxing day with their families, friends and service targets.

Ms. Anna Wu Hung-yuk, Chairperson, Judging Panel of Spirit of Hong Kong, graced the ceremony together with about 150 participants including families and friends of the awardees and representatives of the organisations.

Donation to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charitable Trust in Hong Kong

The Foundation supported the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charitable Trust to purchase a Mobile Digital Radiography System for the Accident & Emergency Department (A&E) in Hong Kong.

The system will enhance the clinical services in A&E by providing prompt imaging support in the resuscitation zone. Hence, the overall patient management process could be expedited and streamlined. Around 3,000 patients would be benefited from this System annually.

Sponsorship for Elevator Pitch Competition 2018

The Foundation supported the Elevator Pitch Competition 2018 (EPiC). EPiC is a fun-filled international start-up event organised by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. The competition is open to start-ups with less than 5 years’ establishment or individuals with innovate ideas who have received less than US$10 million investment funding. 100 start-ups will be selected to pitch their ideas in a 60-second elevator ride at the International Commerce Centre, the most iconic skyscraper in Hong Kong. They will compete for the chance to win an investment prize of up to US$120,000.

Support Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer's Disease

The Foundation donated HK$2 million to the Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease, a nonprofit charity organisation founded in 2010 by the late Professor Charles K. Kao and his wife, Mrs. Gwen Kao. The Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease aims to raise public awareness of Alzheimer’s disease / dementia, educate the general public on brain health care strategies, as well as enhance care and support to Alzheimer’s patients, their families and caregivers.

Support the Society for Community Organization Summer Luncheon

Since the year 2011, the Foundation has consecutively sponsored 560 underprivileged children and families from Sham Shui Po to enjoy an annual buffet at Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel, reaching over 4,000 beneficiaries with a memorable afternoon.

Ms Lai-shan Sze, Community Organizer of Society for Community Organization, said, ‘A sincere thank you to the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation for inviting the low-income families of Sham Shui Po to enjoy this buffet each year. The participating children have mostly never been to a hotel to try a buffet, and they also rarely have the chance to play with their parents at the beach. The children are all so excited.’

Sponsorship for Hong Kong Society for Protection of Children Charity Walk

The Foundation supported the Hong Kong Society for Protection of Children Charity Walk, which took place on 28 January 2018. The Foundation sponsored approximately 600 working parents, single-parent families, underprivileged and low-income families, new arrivals to Hong Kong and ethnic minority families to enjoy a buffet lunch and carnival at Hong Kong Gold Coast.

Sponsorship for the Trial-and-Error Experimental Lab of Breakthrough, Hong Kong

The Foundation supports the Trial-and-Error Experimental Lab of Breakthrough, Hong Kong in order to increase the interest and capacity of underprivileged youth in pursuing careers in arts and culture. The initiative provides training courses, co-working spaces and craft workshops for employed youth, secondary school students and the public through programmes such as ‘Lab Fellows’, ‘Trial Academy’ and ‘Junior Lab Fellow Programme’.

Donation to Hong Kong Tai O community for Typhoon Hato Relief

Tai O, located at the southwest tip of Lantau Island of Hong Kong, was hit by tropical cyclone Hato in August 2017, eventuating in floods and damage. The Tai O Heritage Hotel team immediately mobilised resources, working hand in hand with the government and other community partners to provide assistance and aids to the affected Tai O community.  In addition to dispatching relief materials and removing debris, volunteers also helped the elderly clean up their homes and repair home appliances.

In a further effort to aid the affected community, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation has donated a relief fund of HK$2,000 to each of the 380 households aged 65 or below or with single elderly or local shops.

Mr Daryl Ng, Director of the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Deputy Chairman of Sino Group, said, ‘Tai O Heritage Hotel is part of the Tai O community. We are concerned about the plights Tai O has sustained, and hope the relief fund can assist in a small, humble way. We shall continue to work with the government and other like-minded partners on post-typhoon handling so that the community can be back on track as soon as possible.’

Support the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation

The Foundation support to the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (HKBCF) for the development of HKBCF’s Kowloon Centre. Established on 8 March 2005, the HKBCF is a non-profit charitable organisation dedicated to mitigating the threat of breast cancer to the local community through education, patient support and research & advocacy.

The new Kowloon Centre provides a range of much-needed holistic breast health services to women with high risk for breast cancer in a much broader geographical coverage.

Support the to St. James' Settlement Hong Kong

The Foundation supports the St. James’ Settlement for the redevelopment project, allowing the organisation to have greater space and think creatively to meet the changes in demands of social services in Hong Kong. St. James’ Settlement is a non-governmental charitable organisation providing continuing care, family and counselling, rehabilitation, youth and community centre services.

‘Ng Teng Fong General Hospital’ in Singapore

In 2011, the Ng family donated SG$125 million to Jurong General Hospital while it was under construction, establishing the JurongHealth Fund. In appreciation of the donation, Jurong General Hospital was renamed ‘Ng Teng Fong General Hospital’, combining with Jurong Community Hospital to form Singapore’s first integrated healthcare hub.

Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Community Hospital have won numerous industry awards, including: Green Mark Platinum Award 2013 by the Building Construction Authority of Singapore, Finalist (Health – Completed Buildings) from World Architecture Festival 2016, Berlin, and Honor Award from American Institute of Architects Hong Kong Honor Award for Architecture 2016.

In addition, in 2014 the Ng family donated SG$52 million to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for the launch of the Ng Teng Fong Healthcare Innovation Programme. The Programme aims to improve patient care through training and innovation in major hospitals and medical institutions.

Support the relief efforts and poverty alleviation in Mainland China

The Foundation follows closely the relief and poverty alleviation work in mainland China. Beginning in 2010, the Foundation has donated a total of over RMB 57 million to those in need. The beneficiaries include the following programmes and organisations:
